The NCVA is an organization that provides volleyball officials in Northern California to all levels of the sport from Middle School to College. If you are interested in becoming an official or a Club Director/Coach interested in attending, the NCVA is offering an Officials Training Symposium on January 10, 2010.
The symposium is designed to give the official actual court/game experience while being mentored by our veteran officials prior to sending them to their first matches. We feel that although rules clinics are a valuable tool, the on court game type setting is a good way to get these newer officials the game experience they need prior to the start of the season.
The Symposium is divided into two parts: The AM will be in a classroom setting and will introduce the officials to the basics of the game of volleyball. The attendees will be divided into smaller groups to attend classes on subjects such as Court and Equipment, Match Protocol (when to arrive, conducting warm-ups etc.) and Officiating Mechanics (signal sequences, time out & substitution procedures etc.) They will also attend classes on Ball Handling (setting and other contact violations) and Score Keeping. The PM session will be an on court scrimmage setting where they will put into practice what they learned in the classroom. During the games, veteran officials will be courtside to assist them. After each game the official will have a short debrief and then be assigned to another game.
The NCVA, through continuous training, plans to provide the highest level of official to all of our assigned matches.
