The NCVA is an organization that provides volleyball officials in Northern California to all levels of the sport from Middle School to College. If you are interested in becoming an official or just interested in improving as an official the NCVA holds a College and High School Officials Training Symposium in early August of every year for people interested in working the the following season of the Women's College and or High School Season. The symposium is designed to give the official actual court/game experience while being mentored by our veteran officials prior to sending them to their first match. We feel that although rules clinics are a valuable tool, the on court game type setting is a good way to get these newer officials the game experience they need prior to the start of the season.
The Symposium is divided into two parts: The AM will be in a classroom setting and will introduce the officials to the basics of the game of volleyball. The attendees will be divided into smaller groups to attend classes on subjects such as Court and Equipment, Match Protocol (when to arrive, conduting war-ups, etc.) and Officiating Mechanics (signal sequences, time out & substitution procedures, etc.). They will also attend classes on Ball Handling (setting and other contact viloations) and Score Keeping. The PM session will be an on court scrimmage setting where they will put into practice what they learned in the classroom. During the games, veteran officials will be courtside to assist the attendees. After each game the official will have a short debrief and then be assigned to another game.
The NCVA through continuous training plans to provide the highest level of official to all of our assigned matches.

Officials interested in officiating high school and junior high school volleyball matches should contact the NCVA Office at 415-550-7582 or at vball@ncva.com. We currently assign to the Bay Area Conference, Peninsula Athletic League, San Francisco School District and 18 independent schools.
